Swenson, Klein Pitch in Summer
League All-Star Games
Youngstown
-- Youngstown State pitchers Aaron Swenson and
Phil Klein both enjoyed a recent spot on the
all-star team in their respective summer leagues.
Swenson, a senior-to-be for the Penguins, was
chosen as the Valley League's starting pitcher in
the first-ever Mid-Atlantic Summer Classic. In
front of more than 3,000 fans, he retired all six
batters he faced and struck out one against the Cal
Ripken, Sr. Collegiate League stars. The game was
televised live by the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network.
Swenson continues to have a solid season for the
Staunton Braves. He leads the league in innings
(53.1), opposing batting average (.170) and
strikeouts (50), and his 1.86 ERA ranks second.
Klein was named to the Great
Lakes League Red All-Star Team. He struck out two
batters and allowed a run in an inning of work.
Klein is 2-1 with a 1.97 ERA for the Licking County
Settlers. The junior-to-be has struck out 19
batters in 32 innings, and opponents are hitting
.198 against him. The Settlers are managed by
former YSU assistant Kyle Sobecki. |
