Formeck Cracks Top-10 as Penguins Finish Seventh at Zippy Invite
Akron, Ohio -- The Youngstown State women's golf team wrapped up a busy four day stretch that consisted of two 54-hole tournaments with a seventh place finish on Tuesday in the Second Annual Zippy Invitational at the Rosemont Country Club.
The Penguins finished the event with a team score of 978 (332-324-322). Sophomore Samantha Formeck led the way for the Penguins as she finished in ninth with a three-round total of 234 (80-79-75).
Junior Katie Rogner finished the event with a 239 (84-80-75) to finish in 15th. Brittany Stillwagon, a senior, finished in 36th after firing a 249 (84-83-82). Fellow senior Ann Ciavarella carded a 257 (84-83-90) to claim 59th place.
Freshman Sarah Heimlich rounded out the team scoring, as she finished the event in 62nd after shooting a 260 (88-82-90).
Competing as individuals were junior Justien Cullen and sophomore Jamie Berndt. Cullen finished in 84th with a 286 (95-97-94), while Berndt finished one spot behind in 85th with a score of 295 (98-98-99).
Grand Valley State came out with the victory in the tournament, edging Toledo by three strokes with a score of 932. Host Akron finished in third place, shooting a 953.
The Penguins will conclude the fall season next Monday when the take part in the MAC Preview. The 54-hole tournament will be held in Fishers, Ind. and will conclude on Tuesday.
