Penguins Get Set to Host Five-Time Defending League Champ Green Bay

Schedule

The Youngstown State swimming and diving team opens the dual meet portion of its season against five-time defending Horizon League Champion Green Bay on Friday at the Beeghly Natatorium. The event is scheduled to start at 5 p.m.

The Penguins opened their 2009-10 season last Friday at the Tom Stubbs Relays in Bowling Green. YSU competed without senior Jennifer Johnstone and juniors Caitlin Cook and Ashley Williamson. It also marked the first collegiate competition for eight new swimmers on the squad.

This Friday, the Penguins play host to Green Bay squad that opens the season on Thursday with a dual meet at Wright State before heading over the Northeast Ohio. The Phoenix complete its trip by visiting Cleveland State on Saturday before heading home.

At last year's Horizon League Championship, Green Bay won the team title scoring 859 points.

Last season in Green Bay, the Penguins lost 186-97 to the Phoenix in late January. UWGB was 11-2 in dual meets last season while the Guins were 4-10.

This is the first meet at the Beeghly Natatorium between the two schools since October 2007.

The YSU divers have a busy weekend. Following Friday's meet, the Penguins take part in the Clarion Diving Invitational on Sunday morning.
