Wrapup Fall Seasons at ITA Midwest
Regional
Youngstown --
The Youngstown State men's and
women's tennis teams wrapped up
their fall seasons with select
individuals participating at the ITA
Midwest Regionals, which were held
recently.
The women's regional was held in
Chicago and was hosted by
Northwestern on Oct. 22.
In the singles portion of
qualifying, senior Anna Volkova won
her first match before bowing out.
Volkova defeated Christine Milliken
of Michigan State, 6-4, 6-4 in her
opener before losing to Taylor
Fornier of Michigan, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2.
In other action, Sarah Lynch lost in
qualifying to Franziska Steinhardt
of Illinois State, 4-6, 7-6, 6-0;
Tanisha Welch lost to IPFW's Katie
Brien 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Gretchen
Cloern lost to Michigan State's
Elena Ivanova 1-6, 6-1, 7-6 (4).
In double action, Lynch and Cloern
lost to Christina Ruiz and Rachael
Hush of Marquette, 8-3 while Volkova
and Welch lost to Michigan State's
Ivanova and Nicole Herzog, 8-4.
On the men's side, junior Tariq
Ismail was the lone Penguin to
represent YSU at the ITA Midwest
Regional hosted by Michigan in Ann
Arbor. Ismail lost his lone match
during qualifying, dropping a
6-3, 6-1 decision to Clark
Richardson of Michigan State on Oct.
