Penguins Continue Improving at All-Ohio Intercollegiate
Delaware, Ohio -- The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country teams continue to show improvement weekly as the men's team finished in 11th place out of 38 teams, while the women's team claimed 16th out of 42 teams on Friday afternoon at the All-Ohio Intercollegiate.
The men's squad climbed 11 spots from a year ago, while the women improved six places after both squads finished in 22nd a year ago.
Leading the way for the men was junior Jake Lape, whose time of 27:48.9 was good for 42nd. Junior Jim Ramson was the next Penguin to finish as he finished in 50th with a time of 27:55.8.
Freshman Kiplangat Tisia took 59th with a time of 28:06.9 to finish the event in 59th. Juniors Jake Dialesandro and Joe Coppoe rounded out the scoring as Dialesandro finished in 78th with a time of 28:22.3 and Copploe's time of 29:04.4 placed him in 125th.
Also competing for the men were junior Scott Denham and freshman Aron Korir. Denham took 136th with a time of 29:14.5, while Korir in his collegiate debut finished in 214th with a time of 31:29.1.
Senior Lauren Blase led the women as she was the top-finisher with a 28th-place time of 19:33.2. In 41st was freshman Samantha Hamilton, who ran a time of 19:52.9
Junior Kayla Witmer was the next Penguin to finish as she placed 61st with a time of 20:15.7. Freshmen Katherine Digby and senior Lisa Lee also scored for the Penguins at the event. Digby finished in 128th with a time of 21:24.8, while Lee ran a time of 22:28.1 to finish 193rd
Also competing for the women were senior Dawn Goodwin and freshman Nelly Yegon. Goodwin had a 45th place time of 23:40.2, while Yegon crossed the finish line at 25:18.2.
Both squads are off next week and will return to action on Oct. 17 when they travel to Bowling Green to compete in the BGSU Falcon Open.
